The Barbers Need Your Support
May 28, 2002 - Long Beach, NY - After a series of tests last week, doctors confirmed Rich & Jean Barber's worst fear. They discovered a cancerous tumor on Richard Barber's spine. Mr. Barber, a Wall Street executive is scheduled for a very risky surgery on his spinal cord. as early as this Wednesday 5/29/02. In a statement made earlier today, Jean, his wife, said 'Rich is very touched by the outpouring of well wishes which are coming from so many people throughout the industry. These well wishes go a long way in keeping his spirits high and giving him the will to fight. Please keep them coming. They mean a great deal to the both of us.' Mrs. Barber also added that 'He is bound & determined to beat this.' Rich may be reached at rtbarber@optonline.net.
The Barbers have been very active in an organization called Canine Companions for Independence. CCI is a national nonprofit organization that provides free of charge specially bred and trained assistance dogs for people with disabilities. They have been very involved with the Northeast Regional Center Farmingdale, NY. The organization is currently operating at a converted pig farm at the SUNY campus at Farmingdale, but are trying to raise funds for a new building where they can help more people. The Barber's faithful companion, aptly named Morgan is a black labrador retriever 'who spends most of his time keeping an eye an Rich and staying near him all day.'
Due to recent events, the Barbers have a set of 4 complete US Open golf tickets (ground, mon-sun). They won't be able to use them, but would like to sell them to help raise funds for the building. As the purpose of this auction is for a noble cause, your warm & generous support is appreciated.
If you are not interested in bidding on the US OPEN GOLF TICKETS but you would like to support the Barber's efforts to raise funds for the Canine Companions for Independence (CCI) capital campaign, please contact the Northeast Regional Center of CCI at:
